I got challenged by the very creative and wonderful ‘SourGirlOhio‘ to come up with an incredibly constricted poem on love. I haven’t decided whether love is a topic I try to avoid, or one I wax lyrical on pretty much all the time. Perhaps it depends on your perspective.
Anyway, I needed something to undo the log-jam which has been blocking my poetic mind, and this was just the thing. It’s not a traditional poem by any stretch, yet somewhere in the formatting, something counts as poetry. So there.
THE RULES (because this is a TAGGING game, yo!)
1. Write about love using only 10 lines.
2. Use “love” in every line.
3. Each line can only be 4 words long.
4. Nominate 10 Or So others who are up for the challenge.
5. Let them know about the challenge.
6. Title the post, Love in Ten Lines
7. Include a quote about love
SOOOOooooooo I’m tagging
The ‘Angry’ Black Woman; Tamara
And anyone else who wants to try this intensely tricky format.
Here’s my effort:
Was this destined, Love?
I love your soul
You love mine, still
Love’s insufficient – the toll:
Is love lacking friendship
Turning love to resentment?
Making love feel unpleasant –
Rendering love a defendant;
We’re listless, wasted, Love…
We don’t love this.
“It is not a lack of love, but a lack of friendship that makes unhappy marriages.” ―Friedrich Nietzsche
ohhhhh excellent attempt, Lizzi dear!! I really like it! and GAH this is hard! But fun…looking forward to trying. 🙂

Yeah I decided rhyming was too hard, so I tried making some sense, instead 😉

You are one bee-zy bee!! This is good, Lizzi. Deep and though provoking. I especially like the line, ‘Rendering love a defendant’.

Breathless, I love you,
And love stains us.
We breathe in love,
And feed on love,
‘Til we consume love,
Else, by love consumed,
We lose that love
And once love lost,
Seek new love elsewhere,
Used, broken, stained love.

[…] my fellow bard, has challenged me with the above task. As she so aptly put it is not a traditional format, but maybe it may also help […]

I never knew love
Until love walked away
To love a place
Love could not withstand
A different love flourishes
Without love’s calloused hands
Leaving kisses love ignored
Filling gaps love left
Forgetting love’s lies, is
how I love you.

Lizzi! That was very fast, it took me a week to write one of these! I’m not good with forced structure, but hey, that’s why it’s a challenge.
Lovely poem, dear.

Ah me neither. And I didn’t really ‘feel’ it with this one (which shows, I think) however I appreciated the challenge 🙂

and now from the darker side of love…
dr. love you quack
dole out love like
smack, jiggling love filled
sack, tasty love bite
snack, love worn bloody
attack, countless lovers left
whacked, love torn ruthless
pact, Love, please take
me back, love me
please you loveless hack!

with that moon language
admit something:
everyone you see, you say to them “love me”.
of course you do not do this out loud: otherwise,
someone would call the cops.
still, though, think about this, this great pull in us
to connect.
why not become the one who lives with a full moon
in each eye that is always saying,
with that sweet moon language,
what every other eye in this world is dying to hear?
