Metro Poetry

Vast granite walls shining solid all around

Vast granite walls shining solid all around

Under brittle white clouds and winter sun

DC’s trees profusing hopeful buds

Spring kinetic, yearning for warmth to come

Marching up the Mall and wandering museums

Sparrows watch, bewitched, where’er I go

Taking my boots along th’ historic city’s streets

‘cross mounds of dirt and diamond-encrusted snow

Still wrapped from cold, all huddled up

Homeless over air-vents; professionals over phones

People drift along like tired autumn leaves

Headed for the Metro, for their way home.
