Gladiator

Gladiator

I enter the arena and hear the crowd’s roar

Blood already on the sawdust floor

Sword in hand and ready for war

Bring it on, bring it ON – I’m a gladiator

Combatants ready – they don’t see the flaw

They want the prize but I want it more

I’ve brought my a-game for the one I adore

See me wrestle and fight – I’m a gladiator

Weapons flash, others fall – you cannot ignore

The victory I win as I slash, hack and gore

No-one will face me or they’ll be done for

I stand covered in glory – I’m a gladiator

And now that I’ve won what I was fighting for

My fair lady’s hand, to whom I swore

I’d be her champion for evermore

Now I am worthy – her gladiator

And now we’re away; don’t you look for

Either of us – you’ll not find us before

Every inch, every nook has been explored

A fighter and lover, this gladiator

So my battle-scarred helmet thrown swift to the floor

Armour stripped, steam rising, and begging for more

As our water-dropped bodies give in to furor

You’ll hear this name screamed out – “Oh, GLADIATOR!”

The story behind the poem:

A gauntlet thrown across Facebook, which I couldn’t resist – to fight and win a lady’s favour. Which led to some hilarious shenanigans, and ultimately to name-calling, outrageous suggestions and…poetry.

I don’t know if I won yet – I’ll be sure to let you know.

Lizz! I must tell you, being suddenly wooed by so many suitors has my head spinning (but secretly you know those others mean nothing to me…)

Well, this was a lot of fun. It would be a better world if battles were always fought with poetry!

Quite an ending to your poem…Good luck on winning! Reminds me of “Gladiator” with Russell Crowe.

Ahhh you picked up on something cool – I got t try that out fit on at a Movie Costumes display…that one *wasn’t* from Gladiator, but I did see ones which were.

      Are you not entertained? 😉

Wish you had a helmet with that red mop on top instead of blonde 😛 Other than that, the post reads really nice 😉

Hahah I didn’t get to choose, but all the dressing up was SO much fun. There’s also me in a Medieval-y helmet, somewhere, with a goofy grin. It didn’t quite go with the attitude of this poem 😉

  14. I liked this one it made me smile. I don’t want to be the gladiator, I’ve been that long enough. I want to try my hand as the fair lady.
