Addict

Tonight I am

T – I – R – E – D

Exhaustion

Dragging me down

Although my heart’s

Hardwired

I’ve no energy left

To make it around

And yet (alas)

Though sleepy

I worry

‘What if I miss out?’

And so I sit

Pinioned by the dead weight

Of every one of my pounds

Eyes droop

Quiet limbs

Suddenly filled

With lead

Fingers type

Inadvertent letters

Before my nodding head

Mind turned into

Cotton wool

Still waiting for the ‘bip’

Which tells me

Someone’s looking in!

I might just be addicted to

‘One more click!’

Waiting for just one more blip! How funny. I’m tired tonight as well, after spending some time at Octoberfest and drinking wine….going to bed soon.

  2. Oh lord, I can so relate to this! Papa Bear can attest to the fact that it’s the last thing I check at night before the light goes out (and once more if a blip signals incoming), and the first thing I pick up in the morning as I open my eyes! It’s not the addiction to the gadgets, but rather to the relationships I nurture there! This was great, Lizzy!

  3. You were me last night, definitely. Well written, the heaviness of fatigue really came across.

I think people who write or blog or poet seem to stay up FAR too late, as a rule. But I think that also fuels creativity. There’s a payoff in terms of where the mind goes, at any rate! Glad you liked it – thank you πŸ™‚

  4. This reminds me of a Korean boy who died at a Cybercafe because he was too addicted! Joining the challenge too!

  5. Ah- very good Tired One. Very GOOD!!! I think I feel that way almost every day… like now. Cause Cass was up in the middle of the night crying her eyes out because of her poison Ivy rash seeping and scratching and inflamed…

And now we are off to her BIATHLON!! It’s ugly and freezing outside. I want to crawl in bed…. please?

But here I sit- before I go- because…

    I’m ADDICTED!!! πŸ™‚

You’re a trooper! Poor Cass. Does baby-butt cream help the rash at all? I know we have one here called Sudocrem – it’s lavender-scented and VERY soothing and healing for all kinds of sore skin conditions.

Hope the biathlon goes well! You’re a star for being part of the support crew πŸ™‚

Oh yes! I’m looking in to see what Lizzi is typing πŸ˜€ what her poem would be like, no matter how tired she is. Don’t miss dinner though πŸ˜› Or maybe a nice cup of tea might help. Coffee works best, but then again, you hate the thing, so πŸ˜›

Now, now! I don’t *hate* coffee – I just prefer tea! Though I did have coffee this week – with vanilla in it, and it was MARVELLOUS and kept me awake for my afternoon’s work. Which was the purpose of drinking it.

But when I wrote this, dinner was done and it was about 1am and I was FLAGGING! πŸ˜€

  8. Obsession or addiction, I’m not sure which but I certainly have that malady. And tired… yes. Thanks for linking up on OctPoWriMo.

LOL – that sounds like me. Many times I’ve nodded off while writing, only to awaken and discover rows upon rows of “l’s” or “k’s”, and sometimes “z’s”. It’s funny, because it’s only those letters. Your poem made me smile. It’s good to know I’m not the only one.

    God bless you,
    Cheryl

OHMIGOSH Cheryl – it was a row of ‘i’s which I typed….lololol I guess it’s just where we’re most used to poising our hands ready to type…and likewise – I’m glad to know I’m not the only one. Thank you πŸ˜€
